Groundbreaking town hall connects Afghans and Pakistanis for dialogue
Submitted by admin on Mon, 07/09/2012 - 09:13(Washington DC – July 9, 2012) America Abroad Media recently partnered with Afghanistan’s Saba TV and Pakistan’s Dunya TV to host the first-ever televised town hall connecting Afghans and Pakistanis for dialogue.
This groundbreaking event brought together live studio audiences and government officials in Kabul and Islamabad to discuss the way forward for Afghanistan and Pakistan as the U.S. prepares to withdraw its troops in 2014, as well as the role Pakistan should play in the reconciliation process.
The program broadcast last Friday night in primetime on Saba and last month on Dunya.
Panelists included:
- Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai, Minister Advisor to Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Home Security & Secretary General of the High Peace Council of Afghanistan;
- Ayaz Wazir, former Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan; and
- Shahzad Chaudhry, former Pakistani Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
The event was moderated in Kabul by Najeeb Sharafi, director of Afghanistan’s New Generation Organization, and in Islamabad by Arshed Sharif, bureau chief of Dunya News.
