America Abroad Media's Fourth Tunisian Town Hall

America Abroad Media's Fourth Tunisian Town Hall

(Washington DC – February 23, 2012) AAM announces the successful production of our fourth Tunisian town hall as part of a year-long series examining Tunisia's democratic transition. The ninety-minute discussion, hosted by Wael Toukabri, focused on corruption.

AAM's Tunis-based office, called the Tunisia Media Partnership (TMP), collaborated with Hannibal TV, one of Tunisia’s leading independent television stations, to host the February 18th event, which will broadcast in primetime tonight following Hannibal’s nightly news program. The town hall brought audience members from across Tunisia together with government ministers to discuss the numerous corruption cases that are hindering Tunisia's economic development.

Panelists included:

  • Abdelrahman Al-Adgham, Tunisian minister in charge of fighting corruption
  • Rachid Tamr, Member of the National Body for investigations about corruption
  • Ziad El-Hani, Member of the National Union of Tunisian journalists

The wide-ranging town hall discussion focused on the impact of corruption on Tunisia’s economic development, from individual bribes to cases involving private and state institutions. The dialogue also addressed corruption in the Tunisian media, where many journalists are facing bribes to ignore these damaging cases.

TMP will continue to partner with local Tunisian television and radio stations to produce timely and engaging discussions on issues affecting Tunisians during their historic democratic transition. Learn more about TMP »
